10/02/2014 - Finn Harps ask Primary School Pupils to compete for Art spot

Finn Harps Football Club have again teamed up with Donegal County Council to assist in the promotion of Road Safety in the County. Finn Harps have offered the Donegal Road Safety Working Group a free advertising hoarding in Finn Park to continue its ongoing commitment to raising the awareness of the dangers on our roads.

The Road Safety advertising hoarding will be designed by a student from one of the county’s national schools through an open art competition. The competition was officially launched in Lifford by the Mayor, Ian McGarvey and County Manager, Seamus Neely. They were accompanied by Chantelle Grant, Finn Harps and players Kevin McHugh and Carel Tiofack.

Speaking at the launch Mayor McGarvey said, “I would welcome more support for our only Senior Soccer team, as they provide an opportunity for our young people who are involved at amateur level. It is also character building for their future careers. It is also most welcome the interest Finn Harps have shown in Road Safety”.

Entries must be original and the applicant’s own work and should be on paper no larger than A3 size. Details are currently being sent to all national schools in the county and the competition has a closing date of the 21st March 2014.

Finn Harps Football in the Community Officer, John Campbell, stated, “Finn Harps are delighted to be associated with this campaign this year again. This campaign has gone from strength to strength since the partnership was first launched. Finn Harps see the Road Safety message to our Children as an important part of our Schools programme. The programme has proved exceptionally successful with almost 1,000 entrants last year. We look forward to working with our colleagues in Donegal County Council in making this year’s competition a success and encouraging as many children as possible to participate”.

Information on the competition can be obtained from Brian O’Donnell, Donegal County Council on 074 9172 403 or John Campbell, Finn Harps on 087 3872973. The closing date for the competition is 21st March 2014 and entries should be sent through the school to: The Road Safety Art Competition, Road Design Office, Donegal County Council, Lifford, Co.
